How to share an HTML file as a link and track visits

Upload a finished HTML file, send a Personal Link that opens it in the browser, and review recorded visits and viewing time.

02:03 min

Before you start

  • You need a HummingDeck account and a finished HTML file that works on its own, with its styles, scripts and images included. HummingDeck hosts and shares the file you upload, and the example calculator's controls and calculations are part of that file. A single HTML file can be shared on every plan. A multi-file site is shared as a ZIP bundle, which needs Starter or above.
  • The Personal Link shown uses Anyone with the link, so recipients open it in a browser without a HummingDeck account. The name and email label the intended recipient's link; they do not send a message. An open link can be forwarded, so a recorded visit does not verify who opened it.
  • The Analytics view with visit history and recorded viewing time starts on Starter, and the video uses a Starter workspace. The people, companies, documents and calculator prices shown are fictional, and the prices are unrelated to HummingDeck pricing.

Follow the steps

  1. Upload and check the file

In your Library, choose Add document, select the .html file, and upload it. Wait for processing to finish, then open the document and try the controls in the preview. The video uses a finished pricing calculator as its example file. PDF, PowerPoint, Word and Excel files follow the same workflow.

  2. Create a Personal Link

Open the document and choose New link. Keep Personal Link selected and leave access on Anyone with the link for the workflow shown. Enter the recipient's name and email, choose Generate Link, and copy the URL into your own email. Give the recipient something specific to try, such as comparing both plans with their team size before your call. Those details label the link; HummingDeck does not email the recipient for you.

  3. Check the recipient's view

The recipient opens the link in a browser and uses the file as a page, with no HummingDeck account. In the video, the buyer changes the team size and switches from Standard to Plus, and the estimate updates because that logic is part of the uploaded file. Test the link in a separate browser before sending it, and account for your own test visits when you review activity.

  4. Review recorded visits and viewing time

Return to the document's Links tab to see the visits recorded against that link. Open Analytics to see the visit history and recorded viewing time; this view requires Starter or above. This activity belongs to the link and can inform a follow-up question, such as whether to walk through the plans together. It does not establish the buyer's preferred plan or buying intent, and a forwarded link can record visits too.

  5. Continue with a Room if you have more to send

To send the calculator with a presentation and a proposal, add the HTML document to a Room and share one Room link; the standalone link stays separate. Each document opens from its own card. The calculator opens in the full document viewer rather than inline on the Room page, and Back to Deal Room returns to the set. The Room in the video also has tabs for an overview video and a scheduling page. Embeds depend on the provider allowing recipient access, and Room activity records tabs visited and time, not playback or bookings inside an embed. The related file-sharing tutorial below shows how to create and share a Room.

00:00Share interactive HTML files

Here's how to share interactive HTML files with clients and track visits using HummingDeck. Upload a file you've already created, send a link, and let your client explore it in their browser.

00:14Upload your finished HTML file

For this example, we're using a finished, self-contained HTML pricing calculator. It could be made with AI or built by a developer. In your Library, choose Add document, upload it, and check that the controls work. Other formats work too: PDF, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

00:37Create a client link

Create a Personal Link for your buyer and copy it into your email. Give them something useful to try: “Try both plans with your team size before our call.”

00:50Explore the HTML file in a browser

The link opens the calculator in their browser. They don't need a HummingDeck account. Switch from Standard to Plus, and the estimate updates. Your buyer can explore the options themselves.

01:07Review visits and viewing time

Back in HummingDeck, open Links to check visits recorded against that link. On Starter and above, Analytics shows the visit history and recorded viewing time. You can use that context to follow up: “Would it help to walk through the plans together?”

01:26Add HTML files to a Room

To share the rest of your sales material, add this HTML file to a HummingDeck Room alongside your presentation and proposal. Send one link to the whole set. Your buyer can open the calculator, then return to the Room to review the proposal. Share your interactive HTML files with HummingDeck. The link is below.
