You're tracking the wrong thing

Email attachment

HummingDeck cannot track the file after it leaves your control

Google Drive link

Basic file activity may be available, without HummingDeck's page-time and engagement depth

Email pixel tracking

An open signal that can be affected by privacy features. It does not show document-level engagement

Basic link tracker

A link-click signal, without supported page-level reading data or additional-viewer signals

HummingDeck tracks what happens inside the document, not just whether the link was clicked.

What you can see

Dashboard

Understand engagement at a glance.

Track views, viewer records, completion rates, and recorded time across your shared content. Spot which documents are getting traction and which ones may need another look.

  • Total views and viewer records
  • Average completion rate
  • Time spent per document
  • Trend charts over any period
Analytics dashboard showing view counts, completion rates, and engagement trends
Per-Page Analytics

See which pages capture attention.

See how much viewing time was recorded for each page. Sections with longer recorded time can suggest what matters to a buyer, giving you a stronger signal for your next conversation.

  • Recorded viewing time by page
  • Heatmap-style engagement bars
  • Repeat-view signals across sessions
  • Compare engagement across viewers
Per-page analytics showing time spent on each slide with engagement bars
Click Tracking

See supported clicks inside your document.

See supported link and navigation clicks inside your document. Learn whether a pricing calculator, case study, or booking link received clicks. Supported click tracking is available for PDFs and uploaded HTML documents.

  • Supported external link clicks
  • Supported internal navigation clicks
  • Click count per page
  • Compare activity across supported CTAs

Geographic Insights

See where view activity appears.

See approximate, IP-derived country signals associated with recorded views. An unexpected location or additional viewer can suggest a forwarded link, another device, or another stakeholder, but it does not prove a forwarding action or a distinct person.

  • Interactive world map
  • Approximate views by country
  • Notice unexpected regions
  • Notice cross-region viewer signals

Stakeholder Intelligence

Explore possible stakeholder activity.

See additional viewer records when one link is opened in different browser or device contexts. The stakeholder map groups recorded viewers and sizes them by engagement. Additional viewers may reflect forwarding, another device, or another stakeholder; they do not prove a forwarding action, identity, or distinct person.

  • Additional-viewer signals per link
  • Engagement-weighted viewer view
  • Company-level rollup of viewer signals
  • Document → contact → viewer-signal graph

Activity Alerts

Know when engagement is recorded.

Receive an alert after HummingDeck records a document open. A return visit days or weeks later may indicate renewed interest. Use the signal to choose a timely follow-up.

  • Email notifications for recorded opens
  • Slack alerts with engagement data
  • View duration and page count

Bot Detection

Reduce known scanner noise.

Corporate email security scanners can open links before recipients do and create automated activity in analytics. HummingDeck uses multiple signals to flag known or likely scanner sessions. This reduces noise, but no filtering method can prove that every remaining event is human.

How our three-layer detection works

1

User-agent matching

Compares user agents with a maintained set of known crawler, headless-browser, and link-preview patterns. This can flag recognizable automated traffic, but user agents can be spoofed.

2

Datacenter IP detection

Checks whether traffic comes from hosting-provider networks commonly used by automated services. This is one signal, not proof that a session is automated.

3

Gesture-based activity signal

Looks for mouse, touch, keyboard, and scroll activity after page load. These signals can help distinguish interactive sessions, but synthetic or absent gestures are not definitive proof.

  • Checks signals associated with known email security scanners
  • Gesture-based activity signals with no CAPTCHA
  • Helps separate overlapping scanner and reader sessions
  • Review flagged scanner sessions in the activity history

First-party intent data from your own content

Third-party intent data can suggest which accounts are researching your category. First-party engagement data from shared content can show activity associated with known contacts and additional viewer records, which sections drew activity, and whether interest appears to be spreading. These signals can inform your follow-up, but they do not prove identity or buying intent.

How HummingDeck compares

A link click shows one step. HummingDeck adds page-level and viewer-activity signals inside supported documents.

Frequently asked questions

How does per-page document tracking work?
When you share a document through HummingDeck, recipients view it in a browser-based viewer instead of downloading a file. The viewer records which pages are displayed, how long each page remains visible, and supported clicks, without requiring the recipient to create a HummingDeck account or install an app. Activity appears in your dashboard after it is processed.
Can you track a PDF sent as an email attachment?
Not through HummingDeck. A standard PDF attachment typically becomes a local file after it is sent, so HummingDeck cannot record how it is viewed or shared. To track supported engagement signals, share the PDF as a tracked link instead. The recipient opens the document in their browser, and page-level activity can appear in your dashboard.
How does bot detection work for shared documents?
Corporate email security tools can scan links before recipients see them, creating automated activity in document analytics. HummingDeck combines known user-agent patterns, hosting-network signals, and interaction signals to flag likely scanner sessions. This reduces known scanner noise, but it cannot prove that every remaining event is human or that every automated session is caught.
What's the difference between email open tracking and document tracking?
Email open tracking records an email-open signal, while document tracking records supported content-level activity. Email pixels can be affected by privacy protections, image caching, and security tools. HummingDeck can record displayed pages, visible time, return visits, supported clicks, and additional-viewer signals. These methods can complement each other for message and content engagement.
Does the viewer need to create an account to be tracked?
No HummingDeck account or app install is required. Recipients open the shared link in their browser, and supported engagement activity is recorded automatically. A sender can still choose access controls that ask a viewer to verify an email address or enter a passcode.
Can I see who forwarded my document to someone else?
Indirectly. A personal link can show an additional viewer record when it is opened in another browser or device context. That signal may indicate forwarding, another device, or another stakeholder, but it is not proof of a forwarding action, identity, or distinct person. Use it as a reason to ask, not as a definitive attribution.
How accurate are the analytics? Do bots inflate view counts?
Automated email-security scans can inflate apparent view counts. HummingDeck combines known user-agent patterns, hosting-network signals, and interaction signals to flag likely scanner sessions. This reduces known scanner noise, but no filtering method can prove that every remaining event is human or catch every automated session. You can review flagged scanner sessions in the activity history.
