Document links you can track

Share documents with a link you can manage after sending.

Upload a PDF, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or HTML file up to 100 MB and share it in the browser. Set access for the link, then review the activity recorded on it.

Free plan. No card required. Anyone with an Open link can view without a HummingDeck account.

From file to shared link

An attachment stops at send. The link keeps working.

An attachment becomes a separate copy in someone else's inbox. With a HummingDeck link, the document, its access settings, and its viewing activity stay together in your workspace.

A copy leaves your control

The file can be saved, forwarded, and reopened without returning to a link you manage.

Built for the browser

A document viewer, not another download request.

Recipients can open the document in an up-to-date browser on their phone or desktop. Where tracking is supported, the activity stays with the share link.

  • Open links need no HummingDeck account
  • Touch-friendly controls for navigation and zoom
  • One activity record across supported devices
A document viewer, not another download request.. Implementation brief

After delivery

See how the document was viewed, not just whether it arrived.

An upload or download only tells you that the file moved. HummingDeck records browser activity where tracking is supported, giving you more context for the next conversation.

  1. 01

    Page activity

See recorded time and page coverage on supported plans.

  2. 02

    Return activity

Spot repeat sessions on the same share link.

  3. 03

    Supported clicks

Review link and navigation clicks in PDFs and uploaded HTML where click tracking is supported.

  4. 04

    Automated traffic

Several signals help filter known automated previews.

Access by audience

Set access one link at a time.

Open links have no email gate. Ask Email records the address a viewer enters but does not verify the inbox. Restricted links check the address against your allowlist and verify the inbox before opening the document.

Access level · No gate

Let anyone with the link open the document

Anyone with the link can open the document without an account or email step. This keeps access simple, but the link can be forwarded.

  • Available on every plan
  • No account or email gate
  • Viewer identity is not verified

Business

Share documents from your own domain.

Business workspaces can request one branded subdomain, such as docs.yourcompany.com, for document and Room links. After you verify DNS, HummingDeck Support completes the setup.

Keep the same share link

Replace the file, not the link.

When a standard document changes, upload the new version without rebuilding its sharing setup. Existing links, recipients, access settings, and activity history stay with the same document record.

What stays in place

  • Existing document and Room links
  • Recipient and company associations
  • Access, expiry, download, and notification settings
  • Past activity and analytics

For standard documents, upload a replacement in the same file format and keep existing links, recipients, settings, and activity together.

Documents teams already use

Client work rarely stays in one format.

Create files with the tools your team already uses, then share the finished work through HummingDeck.

Browser uploads can be up to 100 MB per file.

  1. 01

    Pitch and present

    Decks, updates, and client presentations

Send investor decks, QBRs, training slides, and other presentations as links that open in the browser.

  2. 02

    Propose and report

    Proposals, briefs, policies, and reports

Share finished written work in the browser instead of sending another attachment.

  3. 03

    Model and explain

    Forecasts, workbooks, and spreadsheet reports

Share Excel workbooks for external review and keep their viewing activity with the link.

  4. 04

    Publish interactive work

    HTML documents and interactive exports

Share interactive content in the browser. Supported links still work, and viewing activity stays with the link.

One document, separate audiences

Keep activity separate for every audience.

The source document stays the same. Each recipient, campaign, or workflow gets a separate sharing record.

  1. One recipient

    Create a personal link

Tie a link to its intended recipient and review its activity separately. If the link is Open, the recipient can still forward it.

  2. One list

    Generate links from a CSV

Starter and above can create separate links for up to 1,000 prepared rows at once, as long as the workspace has enough links remaining.

  3. One system

Create links and retrieve views through the API

Business workspaces can request REST API access to find documents, create standalone links, and pull recent views into their own workflow. API uploads accept supported files up to 30 MB.

Choose the sharing model

Know when a document link is the right fit.

A tracked browser link is built for finished, client-facing content, with access settings and activity tied to the link.

  1. 01

    Tracked document link

Share finished client work and review its activity

HummingDeck puts finished work in a browser viewer. You can set access for each link, manage it after sending, and review its activity.

  2. 02

    Cloud drive

    Edit and organize files together

Shared storage centers collaborative editing, file sync, and folder permissions.

  3. 03

    Encrypted sharing

    End-to-end encrypted storage

End-to-end encryption keeps file contents private from the storage provider.

  4. 04

    Temporary transfer

    Deliver a large file once

Temporary transfer prioritizes large files and short-lived delivery.

  5. 05

    Formal data room

    Handle formal or regulated diligence

Formal VDRs organize granular permission groups, structured diligence, administrative evidence, and procurement controls.

When one file is not enough

One document can stand alone. A Room keeps the process together.

A standalone link works for one finished document sent to one audience. A Room brings documents, tracked URLs, supported embeds, Discussions, and a mutual action plan together under one recipient link.

Standalone document

Share one document on its own

Use separate links when audiences need different access settings or distinct activity records for the same document.

Room

Keep the full process in one place

Put the proposal, pricing, proof, implementation material, and next steps in one place instead of sending a chain of attachments.

HummingDeck Rooms are built for focused diligence with clients, investors, and other known recipients.

Questions about document hosting and sharing

What is document hosting?

Document hosting gives a finished file a browser URL, so recipients can open it without receiving a copy by email. A HummingDeck link can also support access settings, expiry, revocation, replacement, and recorded activity.

What document formats can I upload?

You can upload PDF, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and HTML files of up to 100 MB each. Google Slides and Google Docs links are also supported.

Does the recipient need an account?

People opening an Open link do not need a HummingDeck account. Ask Email collects a self-reported address. Restricted access checks that the address is allowlisted and that the recipient can access that inbox.

Can I restrict a document to one email address?

Restricted access can limit a link to exact email addresses on its allowlist. Before opening the document, the recipient must prove access to one of those inboxes. This does not verify legal identity, employment, or authority to act.

Can I revoke or replace a document after sending it?

On every plan, revoke a link to block future access through its HummingDeck share page, or replace a standard document while keeping its sharing setup.

Can I stop downloads or screenshots?

On Starter and above, hide the standard download action for supported documents to reduce routine saving from the viewer.

Can I see who viewed the document?

Attribution depends on the type of link. Personal links keep activity separate by intended recipient. Ask Email stores a self-reported address, while Restricted sessions associate activity with an allowed email address after inbox verification. None of these methods proves who was physically using the browser.

When should I use a Room instead of one document link?

Choose a Room when one audience needs several documents, tracked URLs, supported embeds, Discussions, or a mutual action plan under one link. Choose a standalone link when you are sharing one finished document.

Can I start free?

The Free plan includes five documents and five active standalone links per workspace, with no card required. Starter, Pro, and Business plans add broader analytics, access modes, and lifecycle controls.

Share the document. Keep control of the link.

Upload the finished file, choose an access mode, and review the activity recorded for that link.
