The right Digify alternative depends on how your recipients need to use the files. A browser link you can deactivate, a downloaded PDF carrying a watermark and an encrypted file that checks permission when opened provide different kinds of control. Start with the protections your documents need, whether you're choosing a tool for the first time or considering a switch from Digify.
For tracked files and focused client or investor Rooms, start with HummingDeck or DocSend. Papermark offers a free page-tracking entry and paid room tiers. Onehub suits folder-based workspaces, SecureDocs offers a governed room with unlimited-user pricing, and Locklizard addresses protected PDF distribution.
Digify itself deserves a fair cost check. Pro with three users costs $240/month before extras; having three senders does not automatically require the $500/month Team plan. The choice turns on security controls, room permissions and downloaded-file behavior.
This comparison uses public pricing and documentation checked October 23–25, 2026. It does not claim hands-on competitor testing or independently audited protection. Prices below are USD before tax and optional extras; annual totals are full yearly commitments.

Which protections do you need?
Begin with download behavior because it changes the shortlist immediately.
- Browser access and download controls govern who can open the shared link and whether the normal download action is available. Compare verification, allowlists, expiry and revocation.
- Watermarked PDF downloads add a visible attribution mark to the saved copy. Check the watermark content and which download option preserves it.
- Protected-file distribution enforces access through a protected format and its authorized viewer. Compare supported formats, authorization checks, offline use and recipient setup.
Digify's download permissions distinguish original downloads from watermarked PDFs. An original download does not retain the room watermark. A watermarked PDF remains a saved copy; the mark alone does not enforce later access.
Protected downloads need their own evaluation
Digify's PPAD rooms require Team or above, remain labeled Preview and must be configured when the room is created. Downloads use encrypted .ppad files opened in the PPAD Viewer. HummingDeck's link controls govern access through its sharing URL; use a protected-file workflow when enforcement must continue after distribution.
Next, list your requirements for approved email addresses and domains, folder or individual-file permissions, NDA gates, activity exports and page analytics. A verified inbox establishes inbox access. An allowlist determines whether that address is admitted. Those are separate checks, and both need testing if a forwarded link must stay restricted.
Digify documents one-time desktop PPAD Viewer setup in Chrome or Edge and a mobile viewer. Test your actual formats and devices before choosing a protected-file workflow.
Six alternatives by sharing job
1. HummingDeck: finished files and focused client or investor Rooms
HummingDeck is our product. It fits teams that create their documents elsewhere and want to share the finished file, control link access and review recorded engagement. A proposal PDF can stand alone; a pitch deck, financial model and supporting documents can sit together in a focused data room.
Starter costs $10/month or $96/year for one user and includes per-page analytics, download controls, expiry and 30-day analytics history. For verified sharing, price Pro at $25/user/month or $240/user/year. It supports standalone Verified Email and Restricted links as well as verified Room access, team analytics and Discussions. Pro holds 15 documents per Room and retains 90 days of analytics.
Use Verified Email when any recipient who verifies their inbox can enter. Use Restricted when only approved addresses should qualify; Room links also support eligible company-domain rules. Separate Rooms serve audiences that need different document sets.

Choose this workflow for controlled online review and document engagement. For formal NDA acceptance, watermarks, file-permission groups or protected downloads, evaluate the dedicated room and DRM options below against your requirement.
2. DocSend: document engagement with signing and Spaces
DocSend combines document activity and page-level engagement with optional signing. Personal costs $15/user/month or $120/user/year for individual-file sharing. Standard adds basic multi-file Spaces at $65/user/month or $540/user/year.
Price Advanced when email authentication, allowlists, NDA gates or watermarking are required: $250/month or $1,800/year including three users. Advanced Data Rooms adds room-specific analytics and audit capabilities. Three people tracking separate files can use Personal; three people needing stronger room controls face a different bill.
DocSend suits senders who want engagement reporting and a signing path in the same service. Check the actual Space and access tier before comparing it with Digify Pro. Our DocSend alternatives article covers the wider tracking decision.
3. Papermark: free analytics and a progression into governed rooms
Papermark Free includes 50 documents, 50 links and page analytics, with history limited to the latest 20 views within 30 days. That is a credible option for a narrow PDF-tracking job.
Business costs $90/month or $828/year with three users and adds light rooms and verified access. Dedicated Data Rooms costs $179/month or $1,428/year with three users and adds watermarks, signed agreement gates and granular file permissions. Permissioned Q&A and visitor audit logs require Plus.
The advantage is a choice between free tracking and more controlled hosted rooms. Carry the required agreement, permission and export features into the plan comparison; the Free price does not describe the diligence workflow. See Papermark alternatives for its other sharing use cases.
4. Onehub: client folders and structured workspaces
Onehub organizes sharing around workspaces, folders and permission roles. It suits a client-file process where access follows the folder structure.
Standard starts at $45/month or $450/year for three paid users. Recipients become billable through account-level access, Collaborator or higher workspace roles, or access to three or more workspaces. Include them in your estimate.
Data Room Edition costs $375/month or $3,600/year including five paid users. Its Data Room mode adds controls such as NDA gates and watermarks while disabling normal Tasks and Commenting. Choose the mode deliberately. If page-by-page reading time drives follow-up, confirm the reporting you need alongside Onehub's file-activity audit.
5. SecureDocs: governed rooms with unlimited-user pricing
SecureDocs combines permission roles, customizable NDAs, watermarks, Q&A and exportable activity logs. Its unlimited-user and unlimited-document model deserves a look when you're budgeting for many reviewers.
The price is a commitment: $3,000 for twelve months, or $1,200 for three months. The advertised $250 and $400 monthly figures are equivalents for those terms. Multiple simultaneous rooms have separate volume pricing.
This is a room-governance choice. Check each role's preview and download rights, plus the records you can export, against your diligence process. Ordinary downloaded files remain a separate consideration from the encrypted protected-file workflow offered by Digify PPAD or a specialist DRM product.
6. Locklizard Safeguard: PDF DRM after protected distribution
Locklizard addresses the requirement that changes this shortlist most: controlling use of a protected PDF after it is distributed. Its PDF protection uses encrypted .pdc files, authorized viewers, expiry, print controls and dynamic watermarks.
Recipients use an authorized installed viewer or a separately enabled web workflow. Locklizard explains that revocation depends on authorization checks: temporary offline use delays the next check, while permanently offline files cannot receive a later revocation.
Current purchase terms offer annual, perpetual and own-server licensing without a public numeric price. Request a quote for the writers, viewers and deployment you need. Safeguard belongs on a PDF DRM shortlist; native spreadsheets, Word files and interactive HTML need their own format evaluation.

One tracked PDF
Papermark Free covers page tracking within its limits. HummingDeck Starter costs $10/month or $96/year for one sender; DocSend Personal costs $15/month or $120/year. Digify Pro starts at $190/month or $1,680/year with broader document-security and room capabilities.
Three senders, ten files and verified room access
For this focused job, HummingDeck Pro costs $75/month or $720/year; Papermark Business costs $90/month or $828/year; Digify Pro with two extra users costs $240/month or $2,280/year. DocSend Advanced costs $250/month or $1,800/year for three users.
HummingDeck Pro accommodates the ten-file example within its 15-document Room limit. Compare analytics retention, NDA requirements and permissions separately: this task does not establish feature parity with Digify Pro.
Three senders and one fifty-file room
A fifty-file Room requires HummingDeck Business: three users cost $120/month or $1,152/year. Digify Pro with three users remains $240/month or $2,280/year, subject to its guest and room quotas. These prices cover capacity; compare governance separately.
A governed room with visitor audit logs and Q&A
Papermark Plus includes these controls at $399/month or $3,588/year with five users. SecureDocs is $3,000 annually or $1,200 quarterly with unlimited users. Digify Team is $500/month or $4,200/year with three users. Compare their permission and export workflows in our data-room guide.
Protected downloads
Keep Digify Team or above in the evaluation for PPAD rooms, and obtain a Locklizard quote for protected PDFs. Browser-sharing entry plans do not meet a requirement for continued access enforcement on a distributed protected file.
When Digify is the right fit
Digify is worth considering when you need its combination of document controls and recipient workflow. Pro includes page analytics, folder permissions, NDA or terms gating and exportable room activity. Compare those capabilities with the controls included in a lower-cost tracking plan.
Pro users can add watermarks and Screen Shield without moving to Team. Digify's add-on guide lists extra users at $25/month and Dynamic Watermark and Screen Shield at $50/month each. Three-user Pro with both controls costs $340/month on monthly billing. PPAD rooms still require Team or above.
A protected-file requirement can justify Digify even when online tracked sharing would cost less. If you already use Digify, include your contract, export requirements and recipient setup in the decision.
Digify also documents a full-room export with a digitally signed confirmation letter and hash. Check whether your process needs that evidence as well as the source files.
Try one file before choosing a tool
Use sample documents to evaluate HummingDeck on Pro or its trial:
- List the required recipients, folder/file permissions, watermark and NDA settings so you can check the sample workflow against them.
- Upload a sample proposal PDF. Create a Restricted document link for a test recipient, choose an emailed access link or one-time code and turn normal downloads off for the previewable PDF.
- Create a Room with a Restricted link for approved test addresses, then add the PDF and nine other sample files. Configure the Room link's download settings separately. Keep full-Room ZIP downloads off: enabling them overrides individual-file download settings for that archive.
- Open the document and Room links in a separate recipient browser session. Verify with an allowed inbox, check the files and try an unlisted address to confirm that access is refused.
- Return to document Analytics to inspect the visit and page activity, then the Room's Activity to check the visit and documents opened. These records describe engagement; ask the recipient directly about interest and next steps.
The secure client portal tutorial shows HummingDeck's Restricted Room setup and recipient verification.
If you're switching from Digify
Save the source files and export the Digify activity records your business needs before moving live documents. Replace links only after confirming that the new setup meets your required controls and the recipient checks pass. Preserve the original room records and agree on a transition period before deactivating old links. Existing vendor URLs and historical analytics do not automatically transfer.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free Digify alternative for tracking PDFs?
Papermark Free includes page analytics for 50 documents and 50 links, with history limited to the latest 20 views within 30 days. HummingDeck Free covers five documents and basic viewing activity; per-page analytics start on Starter. Choose a free tracker for that narrower task, then price room governance separately.
Does a three-user team need Digify Team?
Digify Pro supports extra users. Three users cost $240/month or $2,280/year before optional add-ons. Team costs $500/month or $4,200/year for three users and adds capabilities including file-level permissions, Q&A and PPAD rooms. Watermarking and Screen Shield are available as paid Pro add-ons.
Which alternative retains controls after a file is downloaded?
Locklizard Safeguard is the PDF DRM option in this shortlist, using protected files and an authorized viewer. Digify also offers its Preview PPAD workflow, with Team or above required for PPAD rooms. Check supported formats, viewer deployment and offline authorization intervals before choosing.
How do recipient viewer requirements differ?
Browser-sharing tools open supported previews through a web link, with access steps determined by the sender's settings. Digify protected downloads use the PPAD Viewer, including a browser setup step on desktop. Locklizard uses an authorized viewer for protected PDFs, with a separately enabled web option. Test the required workflow on recipients' actual devices.
Which Digify alternative suits a small data room?
HummingDeck Pro fits a focused client or investor Room with up to 15 documents, verified access and document engagement. Three users cost $75/month or $720/year. For NDA acceptance, watermarks, granular file permissions or formal activity exports, evaluate a dedicated room plan from Papermark, Onehub or SecureDocs alongside Digify.
